HOBART sweltered through its hottest night in 92 years last night.
Weather Channel senior meteorologist Tom Saunders said yesterday's minimum overnight temperature of 23.4C was 11C above average and the warmest February night on record.
"It was a hot weekend for the city. Hobart sweated to 39C on Saturday and 36C on Sunday, the first time the city has recorded two consecutive days above 35C in 30 years," Mr Saunders said.
"The heat was due to a northerly airstream off the mainland and was followed by a cloudy night which acted as a blanket to prevent the temperature dropping overnight.
"A southerly change this afternoon will drop temperatures for the rest of the week."
