Supermarket stabbing charges
A HUONVILLE man and a Geilston Bay woman faced court yesterday on charges relating to meat theft and a stabbing at Woolworths, Sandy Bay on Saturday.
Police allege a staff member was stabbed twice in the leg while trying to stop Phillip Thomas Burns, 23, and Jasmine Leeane Smith, 20, from leaving the supermarket.
Hobart detectives conducted a search on Sunday and the pair were later taken into custody and charged with aggravated armed robbery.
It is alleged they were trying to leave the store with the meat when confronted by staff.
Burns is accused of producing a knife and wounding the staff member.
In a preliminary hearing at the Hobart Magistrates Court yesterday Burns was remanded in custody and scheduled to reappear next week. |
