Thousands without power
January 23, 2009 08:06am
THOUSANDS of homes across the state are still without power today.
Power restoration delays are expected after much of the state was battered by gale-force winds and fire yesterday.
Last night, Aurora Energy said some customers would not have had their power restored overnight.
Some Hobart CBD customers will not have power this morning because of a faulty underground cable. To locate this problem access to affected businesses is required.
Parts of Kermandie, the northern Midlands and Lake Leake are also expected to be without power until repairs this morning.
"Crews will work into the morning but we just can't get to all customers and have to prioritise," said Aurora spokeswoman Barbara McGregor.
By 10pm yesterday, power had been restored to most of the Eastern Shore, Kingston, Sorell, Lenah Valley and other pockets around Hobart.
She said crews had worked very hard to restore power to areas where power lines had fallen, or been severed by falling trees or been damaged by bushfires.
Of the 27,000 customers who lost power, predominantly in Southern Tasmania, 17,000 had their power supplies restored by 9pm.
