BUS commuters had better stock up on loose change as, from next week, multi-trip tickets will no longer be available.
In the lead-up to next month's introduction of its new electronic ticketing system, Metro will not sell prepaid tickets, Metro 10 trip tickets, 10-day or monthly tickets from August 30.
To make up for the inconvenience of removing the multi-trip tickets, bus fares will be reduced by 20 per cent, says chief executive officer Heather Haselgrove.
All short-trip adult fares (sections 1 to 4) will be reduced from $2.20 to just $1.70.
Medium fares (sections 5 to 10) will be reduced from $3.30 to $2.60 and long fares (sections 11-15) will be reduced to $4.
Concession card holders can travel all sections for $1.40 and students for $1.
The new Greencard will be rolled out in Launceston next week and in Hobart on September 13.
"The multi-trip ticket that you may have already purchased and is still valid can still be used until September 12," Ms Haselgrove said.
"We are encouraging people to pre-register for the Greencard to ensure they can start using it straight away."
