POLICE Minister Jim Cox is considering showing one of the most chilling and graphic road safety campaigns ever produced.
The move is in an effort to put the brakes on stupid Tasmanian drivers.
The four-minute advertisement was developed by the police service in Wales.
Using state-of-the-art digital special effects the ad takes viewers to a whole new level, Mr Cox said in State Parliament today.
"I would add that after watching this advertisement there was a part of me that certainly would have preferred that I had not because it is one of the most powerfully graphic commercials on road safety I have ever seen," Mr Cox said.
As well as the impact on three young girls travelling in a car with the driver texting on a mobile phone, the ad continues to show the aftermath including a disturbing scene where a young child is asking a police officer why her parents won’t wake up.
They lie dead in the front seat of their vehicle.
Meanwhile another emergency service officer is trying to revive a dead baby also involved in the crash.
The State Government will consult with the Road Safety Taskforce on whether to show the ad in Tasmania.
