虎航11月份重开塔州航线

BUDGET airline Tiger Airways is returning to the Tasmanian market.

Tickets will go on sale today, with the airline returning to Tasmanian skies on November 1.

Tiger CEO Andrew David flew in to Tasmania this morning to make the announcement.

Tiger will start by running two daily return services between Hobart and Melbourne, with a third to be added at a later date.

Mr David said Tiger was also looking at the possibility of adding other routes in and out of Tasmania, including a direct flight to Adelaide as well as flights to other popular destinations like Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

"With two daily return services between Melbourne and Hobart, Tiger Airways will provide over 5000 visitor seats through Hobart Airport every week (and over 7500 visitor seats weekly with three daily return services operating in peak season)," Mr David said.

"Tiger Airways is continuing with its Australian expansion as planned and Tasmania is an important milestone on this journey."

He said Tiger's return to Tasmania would also create additional jobs at Hobart Airport for Tiger's ground handling partner, Aerocare, ahead of services starting in November.

The announcement comes after the grounding of Tiger Airways last July by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Mr David said Tasmanians could be assured the airline was safe, and safety was his number one priority.

The comeback of Tiger is expected to spark price wars in Tasmania – and across the nation – among the major airlines and offer Tasmanians greater flexibility with travel times.

Thousands of Tiger seats will go on sale today at the special price of $45.95. Regular fares will be priced from $59.95.
